I believe our financial success or failure is largely governed by the decisions we make throughout our lives. Financial security during our retirement years is best achieved by living within our means, saving on a systematic basis, and investing in professionally managed securities. I am most fulfilled when I can help a client work through a careful discussion of personal and financial circumstances and goals; develop a realistic strategy for paying off debt, saving for the future, and investing in high-quality investments; and, then working steadily over the years to help that client weather inevitable ups and downs to ultimately see those goals achieved.
As President of Blakeslee & Blakeslee, I am deeply committed to maintaining the high standards of professional and ethical service established decades ago by my parents when they founded the firm. As the financial service industry has become progressively more commoditized with firms moving to 1-800 numbers and websites, it gives me a genuine sense of pride to know that we remain what we’ve always been: a locally-owned business that always looks out for the needs of our clients.

I was lucky enough to grow up here on the Central Coast, attending elementary school, high school, and Cuesta Community College. After careers that ranged construction, academia, and the oil and gas business - I returned to San Luis Obispo in 1995 to join Blakeslee & Blakeslee and take an active role in many community organizations.
In 2005 my passion for civic engagement led me to serve eight years in the California State Legislature as our community's Assemblyman and State Senator. As GOP leader of the State Assembly I was a member of the Big 5 that directly negotiated budgets and major policy initiatives with Governor Schwarzenegger. I also had the privilege to work closely with Governor Brown.
Upon returning to San Luis Obispo in 2012 I was excited to get back to where I started: helping people make sound financial plans for their future at Blakeslee & Blakeslee. I also founded the new Institute for Advanced Technology and Public Policy at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo(iatpp.calpoly.edu), where I engage with faculty and students to explore how new advanced technologies can help solve thorny public policy problems with projects in marine renewable energy, the gamification of learning, and development of open government software.
On weekends I spend time writing my father’s biography, renovating my downtown Victorian home, and hiking the rugged lands along the Nacimiento River in southern Monterey County.
